Human rights activists measured the level of sexual violence in Australian universities A report with detailed information about sexual harassment and assault on Australian universities showed that more than half of all students are harassed.

The report, based on interviews of more than 30 thousand students in 39 universities showed "a disturbing pattern" of sexual violence and harassment faced by the students, said Kate Jenkins, Commissioner of gender discrimination in the Australian Commission on human rights.

About 51% of respondents said they had experienced sexual harassment in 2015 or 2016, and about 7% of University students have experienced sexual violence at least once during the same time period, the report said. Of those who had experienced sexual harassment, every fifth said that it happened "in the University setting" in 2016.

According to the most recent data in the Australian universities registered more than 1 million students, including more than 270 thousand international students. The report was submitted nine recommendations to Australian universities, including the assessment processes that students use to report attacks and harassment, as well as efforts to change attitudes and behavior.

Of students who stated that he had been attacked, and 1.6% had experienced sexual violence in the University environment. According to the law of the country in accordance with the report, legal Australia code typically defines sexual abuse as sexual intercourse or sexual penetration (including oral sex) without consent.
